Remains of the British Settlement Fort Dundas on Melville has recently been listed as a protected heritage site. Approximately one-hundred
men including soldiers, marines, and convicts began its construction to turn it in a trading port and a defensive position against other
colonial powers during that time. A ceremony was held by the Tiwi Land Council to commemorate the event 200 years ago.
